The Halification app is a one-stop-shop for key municipal notifications in HRM. Choose from a collection of subscriptions that are tailored to you, such as: crime near you, garbage/recycling day, power outages, school closures, severe weather warnings, traffic feed, and winter parking ban. The Halification system polls data from various sources such as the Halifax Open Data Catalogue, NS Power, HRSB, Environment Canada, twitter, and Halifax.ca. The system will monitor any new data that arrives and pushes out the notifications that you subscribed to via Email and/or SMS. You can turn ON or OFF the subscriptions at any time using the mobile web app. The mobile web app works on any modern smart phone and tablet as well as desktops and laptops. Login using your Facebook account or register with us and start receiving alerts and reminders for the things that matter to you. Use the feedback button to tell us what you think and request new subscriptions. We will source the necessary data to make the most demanded subscriptions a reality.
The Halification app saves HRM residents time and hassle by pushing custom alerts directly to the resident rather than seeking the information themselves from the various authorities. All subscriptions are managed in one easy to use interface.
Each notification comes with additional information to educate HRM residents about what actions to take when they receive an alert (click on the icons in the app to see sample notices).
The app was designed with maximum accessibility in-mind using the latest mobile web technologies and works on iPhone, iPads, Androids, Backberries, Windows Phone, any other device with a modern browser. It even works with a regular cell phone since it can receive TXT messages.
This application was developed for the apps4halifax contest. I did not get permission to use third party data outside of the Open Data Catalogue.
Halification (hali-fication) comes from combining the words Halifax and notification.
